New Year + A Promise To Yourself!

December 28, 2017

The week leading up to the new year is when many of us sit down and reflect. We’re either excited about all that’s been accomplished or feel disheartened about the things we set out to do but didn’t. Regardless of which side you’re on, there was growth. And even if you didn’t check off an item on your list, it’s likely that you added another mid-way and successfully completed it. Each year there is both good and bad, and each year you’ve inevitably learned from your mistakes and grown stronger from your successes. And unless you run havoc in every aspect of your life, self-sabotaging all your resolutions, your year in some way or another had to have had some good. So, before you get into a state of self-loathing or feeling down on the little you think you’ve accomplished, give yourself an internal high-five for the little things that you did do. Because learning to let go or coping with what you view as a failure is already an achievement in and of itself. It’s only failure if you don’t learn from it.

We all have dreams, we all have desires, and we all have things on our bucket lists we want to achieve. Sure, there may be road blocks or challenges we might face that place a hold on those dreams but that’s a part of life and ultimately everything happens for a reason. We simply have to shift our energy toward another goal and know that we’re still following our personal legend. Trust that you continue to be on the right track and believe that it will all come together in the end. A slight derail or hiccup isn’t saying good bye to those dreams or resolutions you’ve set, it’s a simple “hold please” while you go kick ass elsewhere!

The biggest thing to remember as you reflect and plan for 2018 is to not be afraid of dreaming too big or worrying about the time and energy it may consume. Find things you want to work on, make a promise to yourself, and then just do it! Because at the end of the day, and I’m going to be brutally honest, no one really cares whether or not you commit to the gym or change your eating habits. How you view and measure your successes is all that matters because you are solely responsible for your own happiness and successes! So, make a promise to yourself. Whether you take baby steps or big steps, you’re making a conscious effort toward that goal. If you don’t achieve it, at least you tried, and if you do achieve it, you worked hard to make it happen.

So go on, set those goals! No one else is going to do that for you. Because it’s never too late to make a change, to altar how you ‘do life’, and it’s definitely never too late to live your life the way YOU are intended to live it. Dream big, dreamer!

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!
